After years of development, we’ve created a liner that’s made from over 50% post-consumer recycled plastic (PCR). Why did it take so long? Because the technology was not yet there to make a liner that met simplehuman standards. Sure, we’re very picky, but we’re also being pragmatic. People won’t pay a premium for an inferior experience, even if it is better for the planet. That’s why we strive to make more sustainable products that are also more desirable.

Two thin outer layers are made from extremely strong virgin plastic, providing tremendous tear and puncture resistance. The thicker inner layer of PCR plastic is less durable but improves overall density and structure, and we mix in carbon odorsorb particles to actively absorb and eliminate trash odors. More eco-friendly and higher performance!

Our puncture strength test ensures that our new liners withstand a lot of abuse. We even use a pointy testing rod where most manufacturers test with a blunt rounded tip. We’re pretty tough on our products, but so is daily life!
